The SHIRE Initiative is an incubator for innovative community building projects. We are a non-profit social enterprise (Company Limited by Guarantee, no. 04841484). Our main aim is to facilitate initiatives of social benefit that are focused primarily within the community or the Shire.
Our goal is to speed up the rate of change in areas such as humanitarian, environmental, artistic and cultural. We endeavour to ensure these positive changes are made by local groups, strengthening the local economy and community spirit.

A comprehensive local social network for all UK communities & social groups
LocalEyes was one of three nominees for the Revolutionary Award category in Gordon Brown’s 2008 Catalyst Awards for Social Innovation in the UK and within the entire competition LocalEyes was hailed as “The One to Watch”. In the same competition LocalEyes was also one of only three projects to receive funding and support from NESTA.

Advanced online participation and engagement tools for any group, business or community in the UK
In 2008 “VocalEyes” (previously called “The Voice”), within LocalEyes, was successful in attracting funding and support from the Ministry of Justice under their project “Building Democracy”. VocalEyes is currently being piloted throughout the UK.
